February is African American History Month. Yet these are days of sadness.
The brilliance of hope, so blinding a few short years ago, has dimmed. The dreams of a 21st-century America, where achievement is based on skills, determination and merit, free from an arbitrary color standard, have been replaced with injuries inflicted by present-day haters as malevolent as some of our worst enemies of the past.

Who could have imagined a U.S. publication suggesting that Israel “give the go-ahead for U.S.-based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place.” In case you were unsure of what you’d just read, the writer clarified, “Yes . . . order a hit on a president in order to preserve Israel’s existence.”
Those words were written only a few weeks ago, in a column by the owner and publisher of the Atlanta Jewish Times, a weekly newspaper that dates back to 1925. Andrew Adler’s call for President Obama’s assassination was immediately condemned by major Jewish organizations. He apologized, resigned from his post and has reportedly put the paper up for sale.
But it can’t be unsaid. To read in a mainstream publication that Barack Obama should be killed takes the breath away.
How many other Americans think the same way? Such thoughts didn’t start with Adler. They don’t stop with him.
Now, before some of you strike back with, “Hey, what about those scurrilous attacks on George W. Bush or Ronald Reagan?,” allow me to stipulate that crazed partisans and venomous pundits populate the left as well as the right.
What sets anti-Obama foes apart from the persecutors of Bush, Reagan et al., however, is that the purveyors of this brand of inflammatory rhetoric include the GOP presidential candidates themselves.
Their charges are rude, disrespectful and designed to question Obama’s loyalty to country and commitment to his faith.
John Avlon, CNN contributor and senior political columnist for Newsweek and the Daily Beast, recently chronicled the kind of “radioactive rhetoric” that the presidential hopefuls are spewing to rev up their conservative base. I’ve chosen a few examples of my own.
Newt Gingrich: Obama has a “Kenyan anti-colonial mindset” and is the “most radical president in American history.” Gingrich has also said: “This is an administration which, as long as you are America’s enemy, you’re safe. You know, the only people you’ve got to worry about is if you are an American ally.”
Rick Santorum: Obama has “some phony theology . Not a theology based on the Bible,” and he is “systematically trying to crush the traditional Judeo-Christian values of America.”
Mitt Romney: Obama associates with people who have “fought against religion.” “Sometimes,” Romney said recently, “I think we have a president who doesn’t understand America.”
As Avlon observed: “This line was straight out of the ‘Alien in the White House’ playbook, a riff that reinforced the worst impulses of some in the audience.”
In this political environment, there is no invective too repugnant, too vicious to throw at this president of the United States.
It is in this climate that we celebrate African American History Month and the achievement of generations against all odds. The demonizing and denigration of the nation’s first black president cast a pall over what should be a time of tribute to indomitable Americans.
But we soldier on.
African American History Month concludes next week, and George Washington University will host an event Tuesday “celebrating the African American legacy in Foggy Bottom.”
Since the discussion will be devoted to my old turf, I expect to be on hand. “Half the fun of remembering is the rearranging,” as an Internet posting put it, and this trip down the avenues of yesterday should be worth taking, even if it returns us to things that were hard to bear at the time.
It is the present, and what lies ahead, that is unsettling.
How will observers of African American History Month many years down the road regard the time in which we now live?
Ah, but these things are being said about Obama, we are told, because of his policies, not because of the color of his skin.
It’s never about race; it’s all about the defense of great traditions and storied principles . . . as in cases of the Civil War, Plessy, Brown, lunch counters, bus travel, the poll tax, Jackie Robinson.
It’s sad, and infuriating.

As a Canadian I take pride in our nation, originally a British citizen I am currently a Dual Citizen in two Commonwealth countries. My ancestors come from a beautiful and ancient culture in Sri Lanka. I am now 32 years old in 2012 and worried about the calls for a doomsday of the world coming on December 21, 2012. With Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, Russian Colonies with possible nuclear capabilities I am worried about this being a self-fulfilling policy. As a global citizen I feel it my duty to save the world. How? To Unite the world in a the social and economic issues of Democracy, peace, multilingualism, economic equality and first and foremost a feeling of mutual cooperation and Love. How?
I believe that Canada is the modern day example and future global leader of the world. I believe that this is the eventual evolution of the world, I also believe that it is the Manifest Destiny of this country to Rule the Commonwealth of Nations. This is the will of Allah, Jehovah, Buddha, Vishnu, and God. God will protect Canada, God Will save the world, The New JErusalem will be created here in this nation. There are many in the world that agree with me, there are others that believe this about the United States of America. I am here to tell the United States that if they follow their unethical or ignorant economic, social and military policies that they will be annexed into the United Provinces and Territories of Canada. But these are ramblings of a dreamer but the Sun Party advocates moving the Global capital of the world from New York City to Montreal, Canada. A new United Nations centre employing a million people will be built here to help save the world.
One of my wishes for the world is not a future of Annexation but of harmony, cooperation and diversity. If we are not willing to take action on a global level by 100% of the world's population we risk extinction as a species. Extinction of animals, languages, humans are happening daily. Without a new Springtime movement Dec, 21, 2012 will bring about a possible Nuclear winter. But it could also be a winter of global climate destruction, or genocide and uprising. Too much living life is being lost. We must all worship the Sun and stop using fossil (dead dinosaur) fuels and start using Solar Energy. The Sun Party is proposing an all electrical world based on massive innovation of solar technology. We are also advocating the first conversion of CO2 to Oxygen devices which we would call Artificial PhotoSynthesis devices. The future is now for the Sun Party. In one year by Doomsday we hope to have 100 million followers in every country around the world. The Sun Party will call for the cessation of pollution by creation of these devices along with hydro electricity so that our polar ice caps will not be destroyed.
Money and Greed has destroyed our world, the hunger for power has spilled the blood of the innocent for two long. The Sun Party understands that the need for leadership is needed but the leadership of the many by the few is over. LEadership for all by all is our policy, every citizen of the world is equal and with the Internet we will defeat the powers of corruption, bloodshed, hatred, racism, sexism, bigotry and extremism. We call for the end of Terrorism now and forever. The end of fear will happen when the weak sacrifice to become Lions. Singhala is a language I speak, it means from the Lion. My ancestor was the great Buddha and I am here to Roar like a lion. Napolean said to Fontanes, that the pen is mightier than the sword. Join me in my struggle and begin to Roar. From Libya, to Africa, To Myanmar and North Korea the Sun Party hopes to roar. For we all worship on God, The Sun or the Son or Mehdi. or the Man who will wield Excalibur. I know that many will discredit me as insane, but my mind is faster than a normal human being's and I can see the future. One of peace and prosperity for all.

The congress has paid a great price for this maliciousness, their approval rating has sunk to the point where only 1 in 5 Americans still approve of them. No doubt they feel that petty squabbling and pandering to lobby groups and extremists has fractured the governance of a once great nation. The rebuilding of an America that has been decimated by corporate greed has begun. This is the hope that was envisioned in 2008, 30 years of reckless financial disregard can not be fixed in a mere 3 years.
Today we must draw the land in the sand; to fight the fight for the future of the free world. To end the days of divisiveness, and stand together with a unified faith in the power of a good man. This is a man of powerful intellect and a strong moral fiber and he will change the course of our world's future. The world has seen great men before who have had their great mission cut short by extremism from Jesus to Martin Luther King. The world would be a more harmonious if these great men were allowed to spread their intelligence and compassion. Because in a state of unity; the whole world prospers. #Obama2012 #SOTU2012

From A Distance lyrics
From a distance, the world looks blue and green,
and the snow capped mountains white.
From a distance, the ocean meets the stream,
and the eagle takes to flight.
From a distance, there is harmony,
and it echo's through the land.
It's the voice of hope,
it's the voice of peace,
it's the voice of every man.
From a distance, we all have enough,
and no one is in need.
There are no guns, no bombs and no diseases,
no hungry mouths to feed.
From a distance, we are instruments,
matching in a common band,
playing songs of hope,
[- From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/k/kathy-mat
playing songs of peace,
it's the song of every man.
God is watching us, God is watching us,
God is watching us, from a distance,
From a distance, you look like my friend, even though
we're at war.
From a distance, I just cannot comprehend, what all this
fighting is for?
From a distance, there is harmony,
and it echo's through the land
It's the hope of hope, it's the love of all, it's the
heart of every man.
God is watching us, God is watching us ..... from a
